Therapeutic community

T.H.O.M.A.S. offers a full treatment and recovery journey for both men and women. The Bolton service is open to referrals from across the country. The Programme in Bolton is one of dynamic intelligence learning, where clients are supported to develop a holistic understanding of their thoughts and behaviours. This includes 12 Step Recovery, clients are supported by their keyworker and Recovery Group Facilitator to develop their understanding and work through the steps. T.H.O.M.A.S. is very proud of it's Therapeutic Community, building trust and confidence within clients and everyone working together to support each other.
For those clients wishing to enhance or rebuild familial relationships support is available. The Programme supports clients to consider their role within all relationships thus developing their interactions with others. In some circumstances T.H.O.M.A.S. is also able to offer support and guidance to adult family members.
Pre-arranged weekend visits and family gatherings.
T.H.O.M.A.S’ work does not stop when a client completes the initial programme. We actively support the recovery community, participating and organising recovery activities and social events, encouraging informal networking and mutual support and providing a safety net for former service users who are struggling with their recovery. We encourage people who have successfully completed our programmes to volunteer as a way of sustaining their recovery and making a positive contribution to the local community. We encourage members of the recovery community to continue to make a positive contribution to their local communities by volunteering with ourselves or local community groups. We provide training, support and supervision for our mentors and volunteers. Some of our former mentors have gone on to find paid employment with T.H.O.M.A.S or other local services.
Clients will be referred to our community support service in Bolton where we continue to give guidance and facilitate group attendance. Upon admission an exit plan is created for each client. If clients wish to self discharge early this person centred plan is put into action and includes ensuring the client is supported to move on to an appropriate location and that all those involved in their care are informed. As part of the GMMH Achieve Partnership, client's support continues with their community Recovery Coach.
Our move on accommodation provides semi-independent abstinent living for individuals who have come from residential rehabilitation at T.H.O.M.A.S. Clients can stay in shared houses, where they learn to live independently, continuing and strengthening their recovery, in a drug and alcohol free environment. As well as the semi-independent housing, clients benefit from all of our recovery support services. Service users agree to remain abstinent and follow the strict rules which are enforced. This in recognition of their vulnerability and to protect other residents.

costs available upon request. We accept referrals from across the UK.
We work in Partnership with GMMH Achieve services and as such the admission criteria is for clients to have a link with Bolton, Bury or Salford. That is unless they are fleeing domestic abuse and in this circumstance we can accept referral from any area. Potential clients will be assessed by the Assessment Co-ordinator either in person or by telephone contact. This assessment incorporates the individuals psychological and emotional needs, a risk management plan, copies of any previous convictions, medical questionnaire and any other information may help the assessment process. The assessment usually lasts for up to one hour. During this process there is opportunity for potential residents to ask any questions they may have about the programme. If after the assessment the person decides that they want to pursue THOMAS and the Assessment Co-ordinator has concluded they are suitable to become part of our community, and would benefit from our service, they referral will be discussed at an Admissions Meeting. If Registered Manager is in agreement with the admission a date will be offered, subject to funding being in place by that date. Every client is allocated their own key worker and a Care Plan is prepared which will be regularly reviewed throughout the programme. THOMAS has a comprehensive case management system which monitors their progress and achievements during their stay.
We have a dedicated Criminal Justice Team and Prison assessments can be arranged in the North West. Telephone assessments in place for out of areas. Prospective residents can come to the project to look round and be assessed.
We will discharge clients who: 1. Use or bring illegal substances onto the premises. 2. Are violent to staff or other service users or the general public. All clients are given a copy of the service rules prior to admission and warning will be given for failure to follow the rules. Repeated warnings may lead to discharge.
