CBT/social learning
The purpose of First Stage is to provide a safe, closely managed structure for clients in their early days of recovery. This involves attendance at the therapy programme which utilises interventions such as neuro science, psychology, CBT techniques and other contemporary theories of addiction that support the work in addition to some 12 step methodology and ideas that enable the individual to consider some of the outcomes and consequences of their relationship with the substances and /or behaviours they may have been engaged in. There are sessions on relapse prevention, anger management and life skills. Each person admitted is designated a key worker and a personal counsellor for weekly one on one sessions as well as group work and assignments to complete. There are also opportunities to engage in social and sporting activities. Throughout their programme, clients undergo frequent random urine testing. In First Stage clients share rooms and attend house groups. The day to day running of the First Stage house is overseen by a member of staff and managed by a team of former graduates of the ODAAT programme.During Second Stage clients work with staff to develop a robust move on plan which will include accommodation, developing their support network and longer term sustainable recovery strategy. The clients will continue in their therapy process which may include family and relationship support.
