Who we help
Anyone aged 18 years and over that wishes to enroll is eligible.
Recovery Online is designed to appeal to anyone, but also particularly helpful to people with challenges or responsibilities including:
Agoraphobia (fears of leaving the house)
Caring responsibilities
Childcare commitments
Disability, physical mobility and/or medical issues
Financial constraints (Recovery Online is cheaper than residential rehab programmes)
Pet responsibilities
Transport and travel constraints
Working/time-off restrictions
How we help
People can either self-refer or be referred through their local health and care commissioners.
An online assessment is made before starting the programme to ensure you are medically and emotional ready to begin Recovery Online. If for any reason you are not eligible for the programme we will assist you in onward signposting to other appropriate services.
You must also be abstinent (free from mind-altering substances) with any prescribed medication noted as part of the initial assessment. All referrals will be considered and managed on a case–by-case basis to ensure suitability and safety.
Why choose Recovery Online
The Forward Trust has been delivering drug and alcohol (addiction) recovery programmes for over 30 years, both in the community and also in criminal justice system.
Forward has a proven delivery model for helping transform the lives of thousands of people with significant and life-threatening addictions to enter and remain in recovery.
We know that structured rehab programmes should be offered more widely to everyone that needs and deserves this support – which is why we are proud to be delivering Recovery Online to support everyone that is seeking to make a change with their addiction concerns – whether it’s to alcohol, recreational drugs or gambling.
Recovery Online is part of a wider package of services including our alcohol and drug services in East Kent and Liverpool, alongside residential facilities in Wiltshire and Hull.
Research-led approach
All of Forward’s work is monitored and evaluated by our in-house Research and Development team. Following a recent pilot/trial programme of Recovery Online, participants pre and post assessment scores showed much improved outcomes in their mental health and addictive behaviours:
88% increase in resilience scores
93% decrease in anxiety scores (using GAD-7 assessment tool)
88% decrease in depression (using PHQ-9 assessment tool)

Recovery Online – how it works
At the heart of Recovery Online is a 12-week group programme that people can access flexibly within their own home or place of residence.
This typically involves
weekdays (three days-a-week, five hours-a-day)
evenings and weekends (two evenings and one weekend session)
Aftercare is also a key component of Recovery Online with the option to join Forward’s thriving peer-led community, Forward Connect, where you can join our recovery platform to find out about sober events, talks and other things going on based on your interests.
