Therapeutic community
Mount Carmel has over 30 years’ experience of providing abstinence-based 12-step treatment for individuals seeking recovery from alcoholism. Clients may have other issues to, such as drug taking, but all have alcohol as their primary addiction. We are an 18-bed facility with all clients having their own room. We also offer a day programme.
Our structured 3 and 6-month programmes consist of intensive group therapy and one-to-one counselling sessions. Also included are specific groups for life skills, gender, food, complementary therapy such as yoga and meditation and all clients have an individualised care plan devised with their keyworker. Weekly house meetings underpin the smooth running of the house and enable clients to develop the skills of communal living.
On completion of treatment we offer FREE aftercare for life and this consists of a structured programme agreed by the client and their keyworker. We hold 2 aftercare groups a month, one-to-one sessions are available and we organise regular social events.
We also have shared temporary move-on accommodation for those needing further support before living independently in the community.

Clients can either be referred by a community alcohol team/care manager or another professional. Or they can refer themselves.
An assessment can be done on the premises or over the telephone and lasts approximately 45 minutes – 1hour. If the client is alcohol-free they can have a tour of the house and meet with the clients.
Admission dates depend on vacancies and funding. If clients require a detox then we will attempt a seamless admission to Mount Carmel straight from detox.
Depending on circumstances, the admission procedure can vary in length but throughout, the experienced staff team ensure the client feels welcome.
Clients will be appointed a peer supporter on admission in order to orientate them to Mount Carmel.
Residents will register with our GP.
Mount Carmel will carry out assessments by telephone or by visiting a detox unit/hospital. Although we prefer for clients to visit us in order to experience the environment and meet fellow clients.
Clients will be discharged for the following:
Violence towards staff or peers & drug and alcohol use.
