All our therapy staff are qualified to Diploma level. We are also members of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and work within its professional and ethical framework.
Brynawel Rehab offers Family Therapy and provides a range of services to help families cope with alcohol-related problems. Most of these services can be accessed at the purpose-built Brynawel Family Centre during the day. However, we also understand that each family is different, so we can tailor our service to meet individual family needs.
In addition to the structured family interventions provided by Brynawel Rehab, we are firm believers in the power of family support and interaction to a client's recovery. In this respect, we actively encourage children and family to visit residential clients at weekends .
Pen-y-Parc is a five bedroom house next door to our main Brynawel facility. Pen-y-Parc is available to those people who require extra time at the end of our core residential programme to learn skills for independent living or secure new accommodation and employment. We have totally renovated and redesigned the Pen-y-Parc farmhouse to create a second home with workshops for vocational training. Once our clients return home after treatment, they are discharged with a clear care plan and support strategy in place. However, we actively encourage clients to maintain links with Brynawel in the early days of recovery. We are firm believers in the power of peer mentors and former service-users to improve and develop our core treatment programme. As such, we invite former clients to come back to Brynawel to help facilitate relapse prevention sessions. We encourage former clients to volunteer with us undertaking a range of activities. On an informal level, we encourage our clients to maintain contact with Brynawel via our former service-user involvement and steering group and telephone and email contact.
Clients who wish to leave our treatment programme early are invited to discuss this decision with their case manager and referring party if applicable. After this discussion, if the client still wishes to leave, he/she is discharged into the care of his/her social worker or referring party with a care plan and clear signposting to relevant alcohol support agencies. Clients who are discharged early as the result of house rule breaches are discharged immediately into the care of the social worker or referring party. All staff are trained in administration of Naloxone and all residents that are facing early discharge are provided with take home Naloxone where required
As well as supporting clients to make life changes within our residential rehab facility, Ex Clients can come back to Brynawel House and take part in relapse prevention and 1-1 counselling. We achieve this by setting goals and creating an individual action plan with each client. We then visit our clients in their home and help to make steps towards lasting abstinence. We encourage people to establish routines in their own home that help them to remain focused on a sober lifestyle. This includes motivational work and coaching in relapse prevention and relaxation techniques. Our team also aims to ease stressful situations that could lead to relapse. To this end, we assist clients with budgeting, cooking, shopping (where necessary) and visits to hospital and GPs.

We understand that mental health issues and substance misuse often go hand in hand. We also accept that many clients can become trapped in the gap between mental health and substance-misuse services. As a result, we are happy to accept clients who have mild to moderate mental health issues. However, the cognitive-behavioural aspect to our treatment programme does require that clients have the cognitive ability to participate and fully engage with the therapeutic process.
We can not however engage with clients who's mental health issues are such that they are violent, aggressive or destructive.
Brynawel Alcohol Treatment Services cannot provide services for people with convictions for arson or Schedule 1 convictions.
We do accept individuals who are on controlled medication scripts.

Assessments are undertaken by a member of the therapy team & a nurse Practitioner.
This process takes approximately one hour. The assessment process is very informal and is very much a two-way process in that it offers a potential client the opportunity to discuss options with the Team and decide if we are the best facility for him/her.
