Therapeutic community

The programme at Broadway Lodge is abstinence-based and compassion-focused. We can offer detox (if required) and a comprehensive therapeutic programme - please read below for more details of each. Detox is medically managed at Broadway Lodge which means clients are cared for 24/7 by our experienced team of specialist nurses and health care assistants who ensure they are as comfortable as possible throughout. There is a therapeutic programme alongside detox - sessions include daily group therapy, holistic therapies (including massage and Auricular Acupuncture to help aid and stress or anxiety that might be present), workshops, therapeutic films and meetings with a counsellor to start addressing their addiction. We also have a Consultant Psychiatrist who clients can see if recommended and the team is experienced in supporting dual diagnosis, where a mental health illness such as anxiety or depression co-exists alongside addiction. Our full, therapeutic treatment programme is a psychological programme where clients work with counsellors and their peers to really get to the underlying cause of the addiction and to address any other presenting issues so they can begin to heal and move forward. The programme nurtures emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing and we aim for clients leave with hope for the future, positivity and increased self-worth. Our comprehensive programme is abstinence-based (using the 12 Step philosophy as a framework), that includes one to one counselling, daily group therapy, compassion focused therapy, holistic therapies (including Reiki, massage, Auricular Acupuncture and EMDR and hypnotherapy, if recommended), psycho-educational lectures, workshops, shares, Fellowship meetings (such as Alcoholics Anonymous for example) and other activities. Clients work on tailored assignments and also have down time to relax, go for a walk, read or play games we have. Our 24/7 team of nurses and health care assistants are still on hand if they require medical support.
We run an Online Family Programme on the last Sunday of every month which is an all-day session, led by a counsellor, designed to both educate and support anyone who is close to somebody with addiction. We know how much impact someone else’s addiction can have, so the Online Family Programme is a place where loved ones can get information and support from people who understand. It’s all about their own wellbeing and it's designed to help them to recover from their loved one's addiction too and move forward. The Online Family Programme is held once a month (usually on the last Sunday of the month). During a client's treatment, depending on the duration of stay, they may have a family conference and relatives will have the opportunity to fill out a family questionnaire. Reading completed questionnaires can be a powerful moment for the person in treatment.
Option for family visits (depending on treatment duration).
Free, weekly online aftercare group exclusively for former Broadway Lodge clients (facilitated using video-calling platform, Zoom). We also run free, face-to-face weekly groups in Weston-super-Mare town centre. Depending on the duration of stay, clients can be signed up to our chatbot, Ray, if they choose. It's a mobile chatbot where clients can track their recovery progress and record their mood.
If a client decides they want to leave treatment early, we work with them to stay until we have a safe exit arranged (this includes speaking to their next of kin or Care Manager to ensure they have transport and somewhere to stay in their home area). We provide relapse prevention advice and they will continue to be eligible to access our free, weekly online aftercare sessions. If we believe the client could relapse using opiates, we provide them with Naloxone.
Broadway Lodge have two, four-bed dry houses in Kingswood (Bristol) that clients are able to move into after treatment completion (if a room is available). We also have many links with other third stage providers nationally and will support clients who choose to move into a dry house after their treatment completion. Our team help clients to arrange their follow-on accommodation to ensure a smooth transition when they leave Broadway Lodge.

Staff at Broadway Lodge are experienced in supporting dual diagnosis patients. A number of our nurses are Registered Mental Health Nurses and we also have a Consultant Psychiatrist who runs a clinic two days a week at Broadway Lodge. Counsellors and therapists work holistically with patients so while the addiction is addressed they are also supported to take a deep look into other presenting issues and unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour so they can really begin to develop their mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Our nurses and health care assistants provide medical cover at Broadway Lodge 24/7 and we have mobility aids and equipment on-site so that we are able to care for patients with more complex physical health needs. In both of our buildings (Gordon Beard Unit and the main house) we have a lift and a number of wheelchair accessible shower rooms and bedrooms.
We assess every application for treatment on an individual basis.
